September 24-October 2, 2019 - 9 Days/8 Nights

Apulia/Puglia can surely now take top ranking of Italy's famous region with many UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Its extensive coastline bears the marks of many conquering invaders: Normans, Spanish, Turks, and Greeks. Yet, despite its diverse influences, Puglia has its own distinct and authentic identity. In search of new experience, on this tour you will be charmed by nature, history, tradition, and spirituality of places throughout two authentically southern regions: Puglia and Basilicata.

In the Salento Peninsula, discover the most intriguing aspects in mysterious and charming Galatina, birthplace of popular dances Pizzica and Tarantola.  Visit the wine town of Locorotondo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy.  Delight in the life of an authentic Masseria where you will learn the Apulian specialities and savour wines like Primitivo, Manduria and Negroamaro. In the Itria Valley, the ‘heel’ of the Italian peninsula”, charming villages, historic towns, wooded slopes, mile after mile of olive groves and red vineyards, and the intriguing ‘trulli’ (whitewashed, cone-roofed houses) that dot the countryside, contrast with the white washed buildings of Ostuni.

You will be taken by the warm hospitality of vibrant baroque Lecce, and impressed by medieval Cisterinino. After an exploration of Polignano a Mare, a port town pleasant village of ancient birth standing at the top of a sheer rock, you will quickly see why it is called“The pearl or Adriatic”. We visit the old towns and stop for a tasting of pastries and specialities, like the Africano served with coffee or a sweet Passito wine.

See ancient monasteries, secret passages, underground mills, as well as some of the most beautiful and charming towns for a trip back to the Middle Ages and Baroque times.

In the Basilicata region- as film director, Francis Ford Coppola said: “When you see Basilicata, you see fields, vineyards, beautiful landscapes, you see the land as it should be”. Silence, colors, scents and flavors remove the frenzy and stress of modern life as you find out why Sassi di Matera is nott a monument but a way of life. This UNESCO World Heritage Site show how since Paleolithic era“ urbanization”was continually inhabited .

Another interesting UNESCO World Heritage Site you will not miss  “Trulli di Alberobello” , the white dry-stone houses with conical roofs made of lapidary stones , founded in 15th century.
